Human Rights Day: December 10, 2018
Human Rights Day marks the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by United Nations (UN) members on December 10, 1948.
A Canadian, John Peters Humphrey, was one of the authors of the Declaration. The theme in 2015 was “Our Rights. Our Freedoms. Always." |
The CAN Human Rights Group shares the idea that every day is Human Rights Day:
• everyone, everywhere, at all times, has the same human rights, • human rights belong equally to all of us, and • human rights unite us as a global community. |

In July 2014, an Open Working Group of the General Assembly drafted and presented to the General Assembly a proposal for sustainable development goals.
The SDGs address all three dimensions of sustainable development (environmental, economic and social) and are coherent with and integrated into the United Nations global development agenda beyond 2015. The envisaged SDGs have a time horizon of 2015 to 2030.
