Food Dignity Art Show: June 8 - 17

The Alex Community Food Centre is inviting artists with lived experience in food insecurity to create art pieces (in any medium) for the upcoming Food Dignity Art Show. Submission deadline is May 26, 2017.

The theme of this exhibition is Food Dignity. We challenge Artists to explore what a dignified food approach looks like and consider these questions:
  • What does Food Dignity mean to you?
  • What are the barriers to obtaining food dignity?
  • Why is it important for everyone to have food dignity?
  • How can we achieve food dignity?

Backgrounder:

Dignity is defined as…
“The state or quality of being worthy of honour or respect.”

Food insecurity is defined as…
“The inadequate, not enough, or insecure access to food due to financial constraints.” (lack of money).

And did you know…
  • 1 in 10 Calgarians live in poverty.
  • 1 in 5 worry about not having enough money for food, and:
  • 1 in 3 are concerned about not having money for housing.

To learn more about the Alex Community Food Centre please visit their website: http://thealexcfc.ca
